How To Store Food So It Will Last Longer

I don’t know about ya’ll but I am not wanting to make any more trips to the store then I have to these days. So I began to research how to keep my groceries fresher, longer and here’s what I found.

*Disclaimer*

I do write here to use plastic bags however, I am trying get away from using them. For now I am using the one’s we have until they’re gone. If you have a reusable option then use that!

Citrus Fruits – Store these in a drawer where there is humidity control. Avoid putting these fruits in any type of plastic or container.

Cucumbers – Store these in a bag with a semi-damp paper towel.

Cauliflower & Broccoli – Store in a plastic bag with a small opening for air flow.

Grapes – Store in a plastic bag.

Berries – Store in an air tight container, I like to use mason jars!

Radishes – Store in an air tight container with a damp paper towel.

Greens – Store in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel.

Tomatoes – These do best stored at room temperature. This preserves their flavor.

Asparagus – Chop the ends off and store in a jar with a small amount of water.

Herbs- Just like the asparagus, treat these like flowers. Trim the ends off and store in water.

Bell Peppers – Store in a vegetable drawer with humidity control. This will keep them crunchy and fresh!

Zucchini – Store in a plastic bag with one end open for air flow.

Cheese – Store in cheese bags, these can be found at any major grocery store and they are a game changer! They keep the flavor of your cheeses and make them last longer.

I wash all of my fruits and veggies in a warm water and vinegar. Fill your sink about 1/4 of the way full and add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Soak for 15-20 mins.
