My Favorite Movies To Watch During Spooky Season

Processed with VSCO with a4 preset

I watch Halloween movies all year long because it’s not just a season boo it’s a way of life! But I do have a few that I consistently watch every year!

Kids Movies

Hocus Pocus

Let’s just start with the greatest Halloween movie ever made! I have been watching this movie for as long as I can remember which I feel like a lot of you have as well! To make it even more fun I love doing off the cuff trivia with friends while watching, or taking part in the drinking games that can be found on Pinterest.

Halloweentown

Just like Hocus Pocus, this is another classic that I’ve been watching forevvverrrrr! There are a total of four but we all know that the first one is the best! I can’t wait to share this one with my kids.

Goosebumps

I really love this one and I think that they did a really good job with this movie. See the classic stories that we read as kids come to life in this comical, kid-friendly flick!

Hotel Transylvania

For something that is a little less spooky, I love Hotel Transylvania. It is so creative and I love the story about how Dracula is a helicopter parent so he builds an extravagant hotel for monsters. I think this one has a little less scare factor so if you’ve got a little one who isn’t into scary, this one may work!

Classic Horror

Halloween

This is my go-to older horror movie fav! I love the babysitter being stalked theme because I feel like most of us have babysat one time or another and have felt creeped out in someone else’s house.

If you want nitty gritty details about this movie there is a really good podcast called, “Halloween Unmasked”. It dives deep into the making of the movie and includes a lot of good behind the scenes tid bits.

Friday the 13th

Sticking to my cult classic theme I’m including Friday the 13th. Another great, older thriller! If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend, the killer is not exactly who you may think!

PS. All the heart eyes for a young Kevin Bacon in this movie

Nightmare on Elm St.

I know, I know I’m predictable but honestly, this movie was so ahead of it’s time. Despite the outdated graphics it’s still creepy AF and I always wonder what it would have been like watching this back when there was nothing to compare it to like we have now. It must have been terrifying!

B Movies

Scream

I love love love this movie! It’s a classic slasher where the victim NEVER does what they should do. Being chased by a killer? Better not run out that front door! Cornering yourself is a much better idea. It’s gory and a total 90’s treasure!

Piranha

Packed with unrealistic situations and spotty scientific happenings this one is one of my favorites because it’s so ridiculous! An earthquake causes an underground lake to be exposed, a lake that holds vicious, blood thirsty piranhas that are unleashed on spring breakers!

Witch Please!

The Craft

This film follows a group of witches who are looking for their final member to complete their coven. Once they have her it becomes clear that some abuse of power is at play and things get out of hand! Filled with sisterhood and lots of drama this one is perfect for a girls night.

Practical Magic

Even witches are not exempt to the shit show that is men! Follow two sisters as they handle an abusive boyfriend who will just not stay gone or in this case, DEAD! A movie about sisterhood and community, these sisters will have to seek the help of those who doubt them in order to rid their lives of this horrible guy!

Scaries!

It (the newer one)

I have been watching horror movies since I was probably way too young but this movie seriously freaks me out! I think it’s the way that the clown talks and how he’s always drooling! YUCK! Watch to see what I’m talking about! But don’t watch alone.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

This movie WRECKED me in high school! for months I wouldn’t get out of bed at 3 am. In the movie, terrifying things happen at this time because 3 am is the mocking hour of Christ (per the movie) so dark entities run a muck!

Another blood chilling thing about this movie is the way that the actress contorts her face. It is truly heart stopping how scary it is. I even watched a short documentary on this movie and the director said that everyone on set wase seriously freaked out by how she made her face twist and turn during her demonic possession.

Like I said, I enjoy these movies all year long! I love kids movies and I LOVE being scared! If you haven’t seen some of these movies I hope you give them a try this Halloween!

Xoxo
